Do you feel our main character has a need to show others how skilled she is? How does that reflect on her self-confidence? (Use supporting passages from the story to support your reasoning.)

I think our main character does have the need to show others what she is capiable of doing because maybe she feels like her mother dosnt give her enough credit because she is working two shifts. I feel like her self confidence is based on herself but is also influenced by others. I think she needs to someone to tell her how good she is instead of telling herself that she is confident, and I think that when she gets complimented it brings her to a higher level of self esteem and self confidence. I forgot my book at school so im not sure what pgs or paragraphs back up my evidence. But this it what I think

I think that the main character feels the need to tell thatshe has many skills/ qualitie. I saw this in the book on pg. 25 para. 7 in this paragraph she has the need to call attention to her self and feel seen or credited for her skills that she needs to tell everbody. For her self esteem I think when people tell her she’s great she feels proud but for her self confidence I think she was so tied to people telling her that they are proud that she depends on it and she is incapable of getting her own self confidence up by herself and she needs to know what other people think about her instead of the saying “it doesn’t matter what other people say” she is the total oppisite where she only thinks about what other people think.

I believe that the main charater dose show self confidence but in a way most people would not express it. Like when Miss Crocksman ask them to come in she tolled her sister Maon not to give in. Also when they got in an acadent the girl threw the umbela down the suwer and I think she did that because did not want to rember that event.

Yes, I believe she has a need for attention from others, as she feels that she is not noticed enough. I think that she attempts to acquire attention to build her self confidence, so the main character could be more outgoing and happy then she already is to overcome barriers in life. When Mrs. Crossman tells the main character, “That was wonderful! you must be so proud!” (Quote from the White Umbrella. ‘I wish I had another peice for Mrs.Crossman, to tell her that I knew Karate.’) This statement shows how much she believes in building her self-confidence.

Yes, I think she dose have a need to show other how skilled she is and that she is not to be felt sorry for. When she is playing the pino for Ms. Crocksman she also plays a second piece as an attempt to impress her. Also when she is sitting on the front steps waiting for her mom, she won’t be taken for pitty by going inside.
