“A Likely Place”

What would meet the criteria for you of a perfect “secret” place? How does your secret place compare to the cave?
The criteria for a secret place, for me, one idea is it would have to be private. Also it would have to be a place that may only be accessed with a secret password. One other idea for a secret place would be a cavern that is under ground. In the place I would have a television for playing games, a computer, and a bed to sleep in. My little hang-out would also have a place that me and my friends could sit down and do homework. This cavern compares to the cave in A Likely Place because it could be a home for people. Also it is the same because it is hidden from plain sight.
The criteria of my secret place would have to be well lit, unlike the cave, so that I could do reading, or homework etc. Also the place would have to be quiet. The cave was quiet as the book described. To add to the list, I would want my secret place to be near or in my bedroom. My bedroom is like my sanctuary, so my secret place should be there. I think that my secret place would not be anything like the cave that Lewis loved to spend so much time in.
H.O.T. Question: Do you think that the story would have changed if Ms. Fitchlow’s personality was different? How so?
I think that the story definately would have changed is Ms. Fitchlow’s personality was different. If she was just like Lewis’ parents (all protective and over helpful), then Lewis would not have been able to have gone to the park and have romed like he did. So Lewis would probably would have been able to meet Mr. Mandruga and help him out. Not only that but he would not have been able to find his secret place. I think that Ms.Fitchlow’s personality perfectly fits to the story.
H.O.T. Question: Do you think that Lewis would have had a better time in Chicago, or at his house?
My secret place would be a secret room. You would go down a slide after entering a secret password and end up in a huge snack/arcade/bed room .The arcade room would have a computer with a 20 by 16 foot screen and a wireless key board so that it’s easy to access homework and play games. The snack room would have a fridge, freezer (fridge and freezer would be filled with snacks and food), microwave, and a milk chocolate fountain. The bed room would be my bedroom. There would be a king sized bed, a bathroom (with toilet, shower, and sink), and a desk with a ton of pictures on it and books in it.
<Emily has an awesome secret place)
This would compare to the cave because there would be books in it (there was a book on mosquitoes in the cave) and there are snacks (Lewis had peanuts in the cave). Just like Lewis’s cave; friends and/or puppies could come in my secret place too. Although in Lewis’s cave he doesn’t have a bed, bathroom, or a computer.
My secret place would be on my house’s roof. The secret place would be my family’s bathroom that I would enter a code to go onto the roof. Once I got in I would have a house on the roof. There would be a set of stairs so I could go in an attic. I’d have closets full of clothes and shoes. In my secret place would be remodeled to fit my taste. I would have lots of pets including house rabbits and chubby hamsters. I would also have an easy access laptop so I can do some of my homework on the roof and watch the sunset. My place is different than Lewis’s because for one its on a roof/attic in my house, two, it does’t have food in it, and three I can do my homework on the computer in my secret place.
Does Lewis act differently around his teachers/parents than he does around Mr. Madruga or Miss Fitchlow? Does Lewis have responsibility for how others treat him or is it beyond his control?
Really good question! ^^
I think that my secret place would be somewhere in nature where it was quiet and I could just sit around and listen to the ambience of birds during the day or crickets during the night. It’d have to be a place that was fairly open so I could watch the clouds go by. Actually, there is a forest-like place with coyotes and other types of birds that I could look around and find a place. It would also have to be secluded.
I think that the cave relates to my secret place because it is secluded and around nature.
Yes, I think that Lewis has a main personality but acts slightly different around certain people. When Lewis is around his teacher he is grumpy and is disrespectful. When Mr. Madruga is around him, Lewis is a lot kinder. I think Lewis acts like this because he judges people by the way they treat him. For example, when people try to expect the way Lewis is feeling he is not as kind to them and sometimes he is actually rude to them, like this teacher.
