How do the issues in the book relate to problems of society today? What are the implications of these problems for us/you?
It kind of realates to me because my parents are devorsed and my sister and I dont see my dad that often.
In Journey To Topaz the problems that happen in the book relate with some of todays probelms. They ineract with todays problems because on the book, the Americans didn’t treat the Japanese fairly. The US would only let the Japenese be alone if the they were in camp, and they wouldn’t let them go out of camp. Today the problems relate to the book because some people who aren’t very nice dislike African Americans because the color of their skin, and some of the people who dislike them don’t treat them fairly like they did to the Japenese but the African Americans thankfully are free just like us amd are aloud to be alone without anyone watching them.
I think you can relate journey to topaz to the economy. One people are losing their jobs because their business can’t afford to have them working. Also, people can’t buy food and shelter because they don’t have enough shelter
How do the issues in the book relate to problems of society today? What are the implications of these problems for us/you?
I would say that some of the problems in the book that relate to today include:
1. The economy is tough
2. Some people still think it was unfair the way we treated Japanese
3. People are still treated unfairly in other parts of the world
I can relate to this because I have a friend who’s dad is fighting in Iraq, and the economy is still very tough. I also don’t think it’s fair the way we treated Japanese.
I think the book relates to society currently for a few reasons.
1. There is still racial tensions in the world.
2. The economy has put america in crisis.
3. America is still at war.
We can all relate, because we all have fears about Iraq, the economy has done damage to all of us, and racists are still around.
I agree with all the reasons above. Journey to Topaz can relate to our lives now in many ways.
1. many children are put in a position where they are not able to see their father as much as their mother because of a family situation.
2. economy is very bad right now causing many people to lose jobs they may had had for years, and because they loss of losing jobs, creates many people not to have as much money, which causes the people not to have extra money to purchase extra items, which causes other buisseneses not to have as many coustermers.
3. many japaneesse american people still hold that war against the united states. They are still and always believe the japannese americans were treated poorly. Some other countries are now being treated unfairly as well
4. sometimes you have to give somthing or someone you love away and you cant complain about it because life is tough and you have to live with it.
I think that the book relates to today because
1. th economy is bad
2. There is still americans at war
3. People still judge people by where they are from and there skin color.
I think the story would probably relate to me because we all have fears in life but in the end you may not be so scare any more.
The problems in Journey to Topaz can relate to all the racism in America and economic issues today. Japanese were sent to prison camps without any trial and some families were seperated all because of war. On the other hand, America had absolutely zero way of knowing if there were Japanese traitors there. Many people had to give up their jobs just like today due to having to be evacuated. I can relate to this because both of my parents are working very hard to find jobs after losing them.

In my life my dad is a pilot for United and he somtimes flies all the way to Tokayo or Sydney. So I do not get to see him for up to six days. Also in the world during the civil war and earlier we were treating the African-Amaricans unfairly. We should not have been treating them that way. That relates to the story because the Japenese were being treated unfairly also.
In the book, a few reasons relate to problems in society today. Some kids’ parents are divorced and they don’t get to see their parents that often. Our country is in a war in Iraq, and also some people aren’t treated fairly like the homeless people down by Home Depot. Since I am part Fillipinno, I could be discriminated against.
One of the problems in the book is that people look down on the japanes because they were japanes, wich was rong. Today some insucure people sill look down on people who are mexican or black or japanes and some other cultures. That is rong and people who look down on on other people, because of there heritig, are insucure and jerks. I do not know what implcation means.
One of the issues in this book was that america was being racial in WWII and didn’t trust the Japanese. That was wrong, because a large variety of the Japanese were American citizens. This still happens today to Mexicans and other cultures who came to live in a free land.
I think the story can relate to todays society in many ways, these include:
1. The econemy is bad right now
2. peopleare still judging others on their color of their skin
3. Americans are still at war
4. People can’s pay for food and a place to live because of the econemy
I can relate to the story because by dad is at work from 8:00-around 4:00. Then he some times goes to a meeting from 7:30-9:00. Usually when he gets home i am just getting into bed. I don’y get to see him that much but atleast i get to see hime every day.
Problems in the story do relate to problems of societ today. For example, war in Iraq relate to what the setting in the story is (World War II). When Yuki and her family had to evacuate, it relates to what’s happening in Los Angeles right now with the fires (my aunt had to evacuate). Lastly, when Yuki’s father was taken away by the FBI, it relates to the past when my dad had to travel to New York City twice a year.
Some reasons why problems that are in the book that relate to todays problems are, many kids parents are divorced so they may not see there Dad or Mom often, some people think people of different race should be evacuated like in the stoy and many people suffer because some racist boss won’t hire them so they hav no source of income.
There are many things that Journey to Topaz and today’s society. The economy is the same because people are treated unfairly in both time frames. In Journey to Topaz, the innocent Japanese are locked up and icolated from all of society. They have eachother, but none of their neighbors, friends, or any of their pets. The economy today is also treated unfairly. The people with no money have to borrow money and the government takes almost half of everyone’s money for no reason! They earned the money that government is just pulling away! I imply that everyone that earns the money gets the money taken away and the people with no money gets the money! It’s outragous! It is totally wrecking everyone’s economy and my family is very irritated by it. Those are all the reasons why Journey to Topaz and today’s economy are alike.
In Journey to Topaz we were treating the Japanese unfairly. We are being treated the same because the president has huge dept so he is taking our hard earned money and using it for the problem he started.
Journey to Topaz relates to life now in many different ways. First, people discriminate culture and that is not fair for those people. Secondly, the natzi’s made the Jewish go into a camp and that’s what the Japenese had to do because of the war. Also, they were taken away from their home and brought into a dusty old camp. Thirdly, When Yuki and her family had to evacuate from their house, it relates to my family when we had to evacuate from the fires. That is how journey to Topaz relates to life now.
I think in the book Journey to Topaz relates to problems of our society. First of all, the racism in the book continues today. For example, African Americans are treated poorly just by the color of their skin. Also, in the book, Yuki and her parents were forced to live in a Japanese war camp, today many people also live in apartments with only their same race. The past affects the future and we still have the same problems today.
I think that taday, people have some of the same problems as did the characters from Journey to Tapaz. For example, Journey to Topaz was during the time of World War II and today, we are also in a war in Iraq. Also today people thnk of somone in a certain way just because someone else like them or somebody in the same culture did something wrong. This happened a lot in the book and was also one of the many problems. I thought that this was a great book that you can learn a lot from.
